Among SAAR's avctivities research plays a
very important role. The range of projects is rather wide: from projects in the
fields of history and social science to practical economic studies. These
studies are mostly financed by public Austrian sources as ministries and public
banks.
Economy
- Study on the economic relations between Austria and
the Arab World
- (published in German; Titel "Österreichisch-arabische
Wirtschaftsbeziehungen. Entwicklung und Perspektiven" at Duncker &
Humblot Berlin 1995). The study was financed by the Austrian
Centralbank.

- Study on Iraq
- This study was finished 1998 and published under the
German title "IRAK - Wirtschaft zwischen Embargo und Zukunft" at Peter
Lang Verlag.
- The study describes the economic situation in Iraq
after 8 years of embargo and the special possibilities for Austrian
companies to improve business-relations with Iraq. It contains also
future perspectives.
- The study was financed by the Austrian Centralbank.

- Study on Libya
- This study was finished early 1999 and published (also
in German) at Peter Lang Verlag. The German title of the manuscript is
"Libyen - Die politische und wirtschaftliche Lage in Bezug auf Chancen
für Exporteure und Investoren mit besonderer Berücksichtigung
österreichischer Unternehmen".
- The study was financed by the Austrian Centralbank.

- Study on the economic relations between Austria and
the Arab States in the field of health
- This study was started in March 1999 and finished
begin of 2000. The main aim of this study is to analyse the special
"health-business" and to come up with recommendations to improve
Austrian exports and services in this field.
- The study is financed by the Austrian Federal Ministry
of Finance (through the study-funds of the "Österreichische
Kontrollbank"). Copies might be ordered from the "Österreichische
Kontrollbank".
- Study on Austrian exports in the field of renewable
energy-systems (case-study in Tunisia)
- The proposal was financed by the Austrian Government
(through the study-funds of the "Österreichische Kontrollbank") and
finished early 2000. SAAR is part of an Austrian expert-team.

- Comprehensiv study on Libya
- The multisectoral study concentrates on the following
sectors: industry, transportation, tourism, water. The main goal is to
identify possibilities for Austrian exports and even investments. The
study is financed by the Austrian Ministery of Finance and should be
financed by mid 2001.

- This study analyses the future perspectives of the
economic relations between Austria and Algeria.
- The study is financed by the Austrian Controllbank.

Social science
- "Austro - Palestinian relations from the 18th century
until the present"
- This study was carried out by a team of Austrian and
Palestinian historians and social scientists. The study was finished in
spring 1998, a publication is in preparation. The study was financed by
the Austrian Ministry for Research and Transport.
- "Austro-Palestinian Relations, part 2"
- This project consists of very different parts ranging
from a study on the relations between the Habsburg and the Ottoman
empires, to studies on important political personalities to an extensive
study on "The Austrian Welfare State: A Model for an Independent
Palestine". The study was started in autumn 1998 and should be finished
by summer 1999. The study is financed by the Austrian Ministry for
Research and Transport.
